One killed in officer-involved shooting at Baton Rouge apartment complex, State Police investigating

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - One man is dead after being shot by a Baton Rouge Police officer at the Palms Apartments on McClelland Drive Monday evening. 

According to Louisiana State Police, the shooting happened just after 6 p.m. as a Baton Rouge Police Officer was assisting a Department of Children and Family services case worker with an investigation. 

Authorities said the escorting officer was involved in an altercation with the suspect, leading to the officer shoot and kill 24-year-old Calvin Toney. Toney was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary autopsy results from the East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office revealed Toney died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Authorities said the officer was wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting. Officials vehemently deny reports that the suspect was handcuffed at the time of the shooting.

Louisiana State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting tonight at the Palms Apartments on McClleland Drive.

Authorities confirm the suspect is deceased, but the officer involved is okay.
