Mahtook Foundation's 'Evening with Tiger Baseball Legends'

Former LSU Baseball Standout and Detroit Tiger Mikie Mahtook has a gameplan to strike out heart disease by promoting education, early detection and regular check-ups.

"It's not just for athletes, it's for everyone," Mahtook said. "If you're active, if you're running, tennis, pick up basketball, it's beneficial for them."

He created the Mikie Mahtook Foundation to prevent heart disease, which tragically struck his family years ago.

"My father passed away when I was four years old," Mahtook said. "He was healthy, he played football here at LSU. He was playing tennis at 32 one day and he just dropped on the court. No side effects, nothing. Starting this foundation my goal is to help prevent that and help another family maybe not go through the tragedy we went through."

This Wednesday night at L'Auberge Casino & Hotel, expect an All-Star Tiger lineup, from legendary coach Skip Bertman to current coach Paul Mainieri and LSU players throughout the decades.

"From Ben McDonald to guys from a few years ago, so if you're a fan of LSU baseball and want to see all the former players, go and talk to them, hang out and mingle, that's your place to go."

In its first year in 2016, the event raised more than 100 thousand dollars, and Mahtook is hoping to surpass that in this second go-round.

Mahtook added, "It's something I'm passionate about and close to my heart, and when I started this Foundation I wanted to watch it grow, and bring awareness to this disease, so hopefully everyone out there can help support with me."
