$10 million addiction treatment center coming to Louisiana

ABITA SPRINGS, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - A $10 million addiction treatment center will open in Louisiana in December.

New Orleans native and healthcare entrepreneur Chris McMahon will open the Longbranch Recovery Center in Abita Springs, marking the largest investment in addiction treatment ever made in the history of the state.

“There is a huge need for addiction treatment in Louisiana. Many people are forced to seek treatment out of state, but now they won’t have to,” said McMahon, CEO of Longbranch Healthcare. “Longbranch is going to set a new bar for quality treatment and caliber of accommodations in the state of Louisiana, and it will still be accessible and affordable.”

McMahon specializes in what he calls “small-footprint, high-end” healthcare facilities, which give patients access to high-quality care and accommodations, but without the high price tag. McMahon is the CEO of Passages Hospice in New Orleans, which he co-founded in 2013 after seeing the dire need for a high-quality inpatient hospice facility in the area. Since that time, Passages has gained a national reputation as a leading hospice provider. McMahon said he plans to do the same thing with Longbranch Recovery Center.

McMahon has assembled a team of some of the most highly qualified and respected addiction specialists in the region to carry out his vision for Longbranch. The facility will employ a drug-free treatment model that focuses heavily on trauma counseling, dual diagnosis and community support. McMahon has first-hand experience battling addiction and knows what effective treatment methods look like. It’s that invaluable experience that has shaped his vision and passion for Longbranch.

“Seventeen years ago, I battled a very serious opioid addiction that wrecked my family and nearly ended my life. By the grace of God, I entered recovery and got sober,” he says. “My life’s goal is to do whatever I can to ensure that other families see their loved ones set free,” McMahon said.

Longbranch Recovery Center sits on the site of historic Longbranch Hotel in Abita Springs. The main building, which is almost an exact replica of the original hotel that burned down in 1865, will feature sprawling porches, 14-foot ceilings, 32 private bedrooms, therapists’ offices and group meeting rooms. The adjacent annex, which is original to the site, will house a gourmet restaurant and a yoga room; and a Japanese meditation garden, activity center and pool are located just outside.

When it opens in December, Longbranch Recovery Center will offer 30 to 90-day inpatient treatment programs at its main campus at 21516 Hwy. 36 in Abita Springs. Outpatient treatment will also be available at a separate facility in Old Metairie called Longbranch Wellness, which will begin accepting patients in November 2017. Both will accept insurance.
