Baton Rouge hotel tax sees ballots for second time

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - A proposal to raise taxes on visitors to the capital will be on the ballot for the November elections.

Voters will get to decide if there should be an extra hotel room sales tax to help renovate the Raising Cane's River Center and other tourism efforts.

"The hotel tax is going to be a two percent increase," said Paul Arrigo, President and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge.

Last year, this tax failed at the polls; however, local neighbors in East Baton Rouge Parish are hopeful for a positive outcome.

"I personally think [this is] a good cause, " said Julia Moore.

Officials involved also said this tax will have a positive economic impact, generating more than $2 million annually.
