Baton Rouge man accused of beating 1-year-old with belt

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) - The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect accused of beating a 1-year-old boy with a belt.

According to authorities, 30-year-old Christopher Butler was asked to watch the child while his mother attended an event on Saturday.

Upon returning home, authorities said the mother noticed her child had a knot on his head and a swollen lip. After arriving to the scene, deputies discovered whelps on the child's stomach and back.

Officials said the suspect admitted to whipping the child on his stomach, back and head to stop him from crying.
