Broadmoor United Methodist to host "Confronting Racism Like Christians"

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Broadmoor United Methodist Church (BUMC) will host a special discussion titled “Confronting Racism Like Christians” on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018.

The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Reverend Dr. William H. Willimon will lead a conversation about “America’s Original Sin,” from a Christian point of view. He will also talk about the history of race and racism among American Christians.
Rev. Willimon is Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry at the Divinity School at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He served eight years as the Bishop of the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church. For 20 years prior to the episcopacy, he was Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christian Ministry at Duke University.
“Broadmoor United Methodist is committed to helping Baton Rouge become more like God’s dream for our community,” said BUMC’s Senior Pastor Rev. Donnie Wilkinson. "Of all the conversations our community needs to have, race is one of the most challenging. Dr. Willimon, in his winsome yet challenging style, will help each of us take the next step as we continue to courageously face our past and collectively dream about our future,” Wilkinson said.
“Confronting Racism Like Christians” is an opportunity for local people of various races and backgrounds to come together to explore and discuss a topic that affects their lives. The event is free and childcare will be provided. Attendees are asked to reserve a seat via Broadmoor United Methodist Church’s website at www.broadmoormethodist.org

Rev. Willimon will also be preaching the morning of Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018. Everyone is welcome to attend either of the following services: 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. There will not be a service in the Casual Worship Center on this date, as it is being combined with the Sanctuary service.
