BRPD make arrest in Sunday morning fatal shooting

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Baton Rouge Police detectives in collaboration with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, arrested Taher Toom, 53, of 14055 Tricou Blvd, Hammond in connection with the shooting death of Zakaria Toom. 


The Baton Rouge Police Department are still investigating the fatal shooting that happened this morning at 12773 Parnell Drive. 


Potential motives are still under investigation and information provided by witnesses was crucial in the arrest of Taher Toom. 


Toom will be booked in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on charges of Second Degree Murder and Illegal Use of a Weapon. He will be transferred later to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. 


The shooting occurred around 1:45 a.m on Sunday morning and it took the life of Zakaria Toom, 50, of 16132 Haynes Drive. 


According to police, Toom was found inside the Parnell Drive residence suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. 


The victim died at the scene.
