Community members to honor fallen heroes with balloon release

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - People across the Baton Rouge community will come together tonight to honor the three fallen officers; Matthew Gerald, Montrell Jackson, and Brad Garafola at Baton Rouge Police Headquarters tonight for a balloon release.

Mackenzie Shaw, one of the organizers of today's event, wanted to make sure that officers knew how much the community appreciates the work they do for the community.

"We wanted them to know how much we appreciate and honor them for the work they do and continue to do for us," said Shaw. "We want them to know that we got their six."

Organizers are asking those wanting to attend to bring black and blue balloons and start to gather around 6 p.m.

The balloon release will take place around 6:30 p.m.
