BATON ROUGE, LA - The Department of Children and Family Services wants to improve the foster care system here in Louisiana with a rising number of children entering the system everyday.
Wednesday at Healing Place Church, DCFS introduced the Quality Parenting Initiative. Advocates said the goal is to strengthen the system by giving foster parents a stronger voice on issues that impact their children.
"The most important thing the child welfare system can do for children is to give them excellent parenting while their own parents can't really care for them adequately, and that has not been something child welfare on a federal, state or local level has really focused on," said Carole Shauffer of Quality Parenting Initiative.
A Question and Answer session was held to get input from local advocates. QPI has already launched in states like Florida, California and Nevada.
