DEMCO conducts supply drive for Hurricane Harvey victims

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - DEMCO CEO and General Manager John Vranic has announced the local electric cooperative is conducting a supply drive to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Vranic said DEMCO employees, members and the public at-large are invited to participate in the drive. All items collected will be delivered to rural co-op communities that are continuing to recover from the storm.

“We’re eager for the opportunity to reciprocate the kindness that our neighbors have shown us in the past,” Vranic said. “As we discovered after last year’s flood in our area, the folks in Texas and Southwest Louisiana have a long road ahead of them, and we want to do whatever we can to help.” Vranic said the most needed items include the following:

• Cleaning supplies (Brooms and Mops)

• Work gloves, rubber gloves

• Storage containers

• Large black trash bags

• Face masks

• Paper towels

• First aid kits

• Diapers (all kinds), baby wipes

Those who wish to participate in the supply drive may drop off donations between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at any DEMCO office until September 15. No personal checks will be accepted, but cash donations may be made.

“Our employees have already taken the lead on this and have started bring in cleaning supplies, personal items that people can really use and cash donations,” Vranic said. “We encourage others to join us as we lend a hand to our neighbors in need.”
