District Attorney Hillar Moore reacts to early morning murder-suicide incident

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Neighbors on Wax Road said they heard loud noise, screaming, and gun fire.

A man shot and killed a woman, and then turned the gun to himself and pulled the trigger. A story the area (Central, Louisiana) is all too familiar with, especially in Louisiana.

"I think this is our ninth or tenth domestic violence homicide case," said District Attorney Hillar Moore. "It surely puts us over last year, which I am not surprised given with what we have this year."

According to a study, Louisiana is ranked the second highest state with domestic violence cases.

"It's so disheartening to always have to turn on the television, open newspapers, and hear that again someone has lost their lives due to domestic violence," said Twahna P. Harris, from the Butterfly Society.

From verbal threats to physical attacks, the warning signs of an abuser come in all forms.

"If you see a family member struggling whether it is going to be a potential victim or defendant, notify somebody," said Attorney Moore.
