EBR government offices closed due to weather, MOHSEP urges caution

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Due to the continued threat of potentially dangerous wintry weather throughout East Baton Rouge Parish, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has announced the closure of all City-Parish government offices on Friday, Dec. 8. Employees essential to emergency-related activities should seek direction from their appointing authority.

The Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) is consistently monitoring the situation, along with the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the National Weather Service.

As of the last update, the parish will experience rain mixed with occasional sleet this evening. After midnight, snow can begin, with the heaviest rates expected during the hours of 3-10 a.m. on Friday. During this time, visibility could be low. Ground temperatures will stay above freezing during this snowfall. While there are no predictions for the snow to accumulate on roadways or a warning for black ice, drivers are urged to proceed with caution.
