Float at New Roads parade collapses, multiple injured

NEW ROADS, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Several Mardi Gras revelers suffered minor injuries in New Roads on Tuesday, when the float they were on board collapsed, officials confirm.

Police Chief Kevin McDonald said the driver of the vehicle pulling the float hit a telephone pole. The pole then hit the roof of the float, causing it to collapse.

The incident happened near the corner of Olinde and Main streets shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Authorities said nine people were taken to a local hospital, including one who suffered a head injury and another with a wounded leg.

The parade resumed once the float was pulled from the route.
