Fox 44's Justin Campbell got the chance to go alligator hunting with Buck McNeely, TV Host of "The Outdoorsman with Buck McNeely."
We drove about an hour south of Baton Rouge to the small town of Vacherie, Louisiana.
"We'll take you into some mean nasty cypress swamps and show you some back country bayou like you've never seen before,"said Buck McNeely.
After a 15 minute boat ride, we arrived in the swamp, which was very cool and surprisingly had no mosquitoes, but don't let that fool you.
"They're very secretive animals that's why you don't see them very often, out in the day sitting on the banks occasionally, you may see them swimming, most of the activity is a night," said McNeely.
After checking multiple hooks, after an hour, we finally caught a 6 foot alligator. In all 7 alligators were caught ranging from 6ft to 10ft.
McNeely said every part of the gator will be used.
"The meat generated is utilized by everybody so nothing is wasted," said McNeely.
"The Outdoorsman with Buck McNeely" airs Sundays at 10:30 CDT on WVLA.
