Hometown Heroes at Local Fire Station

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Firefighters risk their lives daily responding to all types of emergency situations. The reason they do it? Well, according to the firefighters at Baton Rouge Fire Station #13 it's not for the glory, it's just the job.

"It's a misconception that all firefighters are superheroes. I love my job, but that's not why I do it," said B.R.F.D firefighter Shane Hernandez.

When asked how it feels to be considered a hero by many they humbly pass the credit to all of the emergency crews that respond.

Working 24 hour shifts and sleeping with an ear trained for alarms the Baton Rouge Fire Department takes pride in the lives they save and the days they brighten.

"On people's worst day that's when we show up," said B.R.F.D firefighter John Buxton. "If I can give a few kind words or offer encouragement to make their day a little better, then I feel like I have done my job."
