Houma man succumbs to injuries from Terrebonne Parish crash

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Early on December 2, 2017, Jessie Bethancourt, 45 died at University Medical Center in New Orleans from injuries he sustained in a Monday morning crash.

Before 7 a.m. on  November 27, 2017, Bethancourt's vehicle was struck head-on in Terrebonne Parish.

Louisiana State Police responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash on LA 311 near Fletcher Technical Community College. 

The crash took the lives of 63 year old Larry Landry of Thibodaux and 31 year old Timothy Cleary of Orlando, FL.

The initial LSP investigation showed that Landry was traveling south on LA 311 in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.

Bethancourt was traveling north on LA 311 in a 2007 Toyota Tacoma when Landry crossed the center line and struck Bethancourt’s vehicle head-on.

Landry was properly restrained at the time of the crash, but received fatal injuries. Landry was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

According to TFC Jesse LaGrange, Bethancourt was not wearing his seat belt and sustained severe injuries. He was transported to University Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance Service Air Med.

Cleary was a passenger in Bethancourt’s vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He sustained fatal injuries and was also pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

Toxicology tests are pending from both drivers and the crash remains under investigation.
