LWC recognizes Veterans Day 2017

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) will pause on November 11 to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces on Veterans Day.

The LWC proudly assists veterans across Louisiana by providing employment assistance, including training opportunities, job referrals and job placement. The services are rendered throughout the LWC’s 59 local Business and Career Solutions Centers, where vets are matched with trained staff members who ensure their employment needs are met. Specialized services are also available for disabled veterans.

The LWC actively advocates for veteran hiring through its team of Local Veterans Employment Representatives. These individuals conduct employer outreach through a series of seminars and workshops, as well as perform individualized job development services on behalf of vets. The LWC encourages employers to hire veterans and to take advantage of the unique skillsets they possess that can be used to support a variety of industries.

“Veterans are people from our communities who serve our country bravely and without reservation. Upon returning home, it is our responsibility and moral duty to ensure they have access to the necessary resources to acclimate back into civilian life, including healthcare, housing and employment,” said LWC Executive Director Ava Dejoie. “We are forever indebted to these men and women, and extend our sincerest gratitude to them and their families for their sacrifices.”
