Man shot in Baton Rouge on Saturday adds to violent weekend

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - A man was shot on Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge. 

On December 30, the BPD said, the shooting occurred around 1:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lake Calais Court.

Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. of the Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed that the male victim has non-life threatening injuries. 

According to the BRPD, the 18-year-old victim is expected to survive his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Baton Rouge Police Department released a statement on all of the recent violence in area: 

"Due to the increased violence that occurred last night, the Baton Rouge Police Department will be increasing patrols throughout the city, focusing on the areas where these crimes are occurring. We want the community to know that officers will continue to provide a high visibility and constructive contact while patrolling the streets of Baton Rouge. We ask the public to continue in assisting us to solve these crimes by contacting the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at 344-7867 with any information you may have."
