MOHSEP issues update on Hurricane Harvey, list of sandbag locations

NOAA spots an intensifying Harvey
BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - In preparation for Hurricane Harvey, the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness urges East Baton Rouge Parish residents to take precautions due to the uncertainty of this weather system and the path it will take moving inland.
 
Residents should not attempt to drive through flood waters and are urged to continue to monitor local weather reports. The National Weather Service expects afternoon showers through Saturday, bringing 1-3 inches of rain.  An estimated rainfall total of 5-10 inches is possible for the East Baton Rouge Parish area from now until next Friday.
 
As a precautionary measure, sand and sandbags are currently available at the following BREC Park locations:
  • BREC Airline Highway Fairgrounds – 16072 Airline Highway
  • BREC Alsen Park – 601 Old Rafe Meyer Road
  • BREC Doyles Bayou Park – 7801 Port Hudson-Pride Road
  • BREC Flannery Road Park – 801 South Flannery Road
  • BREC Hartley-Vey at Gardere Park – 1702 Gardere Lane
  • BREC Memorial Stadium – 1702 Foss Street
  • BREC Lovett Road Park – 13443 Lovett Road
Residents are urged to bring their own shovels to fill the sandbags. Real-time information about the locations can also be found at http://gis.brla.gov/emergency.
