Prairieville couple arrested for cruelty to juveniles

BATON ROUGE, LA (LOCAL33) (FOX44) - A Prairieville couple is in custody after a two-year-old was found in critical condition.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives arrested the couple for second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. On Thursday, February 8, detectives got information from a local hospital regarding a two-year-old male brought to the emergency room with severe bruising to his body. The child is currently listed in critical condition.

The father, 27-year-old Lee Jude Barrient and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Rikki Dyson were arrested by the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. After further investigation, detectives learned that Barrient has a four-year-old child who also had similar bruising to the body. Dyson also has a one-year-old child. Officials say the children are now with the Department of Children and Family Services.

Both Barrient and Dyson are charged with second-degree cruelty to juveniles and cruelty to juveniles. The couple was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
