State Representative C. Denise Marcelle hosts crime town hall

BATON ROUGE (NBC 33) (FOX 44) - Louisiana State Rep. C. Denise Marcelle hosted a crime prevention and solution town hall meeting Thursday night at Baton Rouge Community College.

The meeting included panelists like Baker Police Chief Carl Dunn, Criminal Justice Professor Paul Guidry, East Baton Rouge Parish Assistant District Attorney William Jorden and several others.

Jim Engster, radio talk show host and journalist, moderated the event.

The discussion highlighted the recent Department of Justice's announcement to combat crime.

Marcelle said she is hopeful that the community can offer solutions to help prevent and decrease the violence occurring in Baton Rouge.

"I believe it's important that the community is not only informed, but have a voice and an end to what those solutions should look like," Marcelle said. "It's easy to come in to a community and tell them what you're gonna do, it's better though when the community can have a voice in whatever you're going to do and a buy in."
