NOPD arrest 8 gang members in drug roundup, 1 still at large

NEW ORLEANS, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Eight gang bangers were arrested on drug and racketeering charges Wednesday and New Orleans Police need your help finding one still at large.

NOPD joined forces with multiple agencies in a year-long investigation of the gang known on the streets as D-Block. 

During this investigation, authorities came up with enough evidence to arrest four gang members.

Three other members were already incarcerated on unrelated charges.

That leaves 38-year-old Johnny Johnson, who is still at large.

“Mayor Cantrell has charged me with delivering real results for the people of New Orleans --- and these arrests are evidence of just that,” NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said.

“I take that responsibility to the Mayor and to the people of New Orleans extremely seriously, and I am proud today to stand here with my leadership team and talk to you about results.”

All nine suspects are responsible for distributing narcotics in the 2500 and 2600 blocks of Durmaine Street.

A search warrant at 2500 Dumaine Street uncovered 10.36 grams of heroin, drug paraphernalia and nearly $9,000 in cash.

While this search warrant was taking place, First District officers conducted a traffic stop of another target who was under surveillance. That search led to the arrest of a suspect who was  in possession of 55 bags of heroin, totaling 13.20 grams, packaged for sale.
 
As a result, the following items were taken off New Orleans streets:
  • Guns – 15
  • Marijuana – 3,075.75 grams (6.781 pounds)
  • Crack Cocaine – 116.43 grams
  • Heroin – 310.76 grams (10 ounces)
  • Methamphetamines – 18.90 grams
  • Ecstasy – 27.62
  • Tramadol pills – 16 grams
  • Hydrocodine – 14 grams
  • Powder Cocaine – 1.17 grams
  • Cash – $35,293
