Two LSU fraternities placed on suspension

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Two LSU fraternities have been placed on an interim suspension for reportedly violating university policy. 

According to officials, the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity held a social event on Oct. 13 that was not in

compliance with the Greek Life policy. The chapter is currently under investigation regarding potential violations of the LSU Code of Student Conduct

The Interim Suspension includes but is not limited to:

  • The chapter may not host or participate in any chapter events. This includes, but is not limited to, game day banners, study hours and groups, on-call/designated driver programs, organized chapter clean-ups, bus trips, exchanges, GRUBs, semi formals, formals, dance/step practices, Founders day, participation in alumni events, and any on-off campus programs and socials; or assessment workshops unless the topic is hazing, alcohol, drug or sexual misconduct. 
  • The chapter may not participate in any intramural activities.
  • The chapter may not conduct any meetings unless directed by the University to assist in the investigation. 
  • The chapter may, with Alumni Advisory board members present, conduct ritual meetings to facilitate new member education and to carry out essential chapter business; chapter president and advisor must notify the University (Greek Life) in writing, at least 24 hours in advance, to request permission to hold a chapter function.

In addition, the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity has been placed on an interim suspension following the chapter's participation in events that may have violated university policy. 

According to officials, the events happened August 21. The chapter may have also held a new member activity on Nov. 5 without an advisor present. 

The chapter is currently under investigation for potential violations of the LSU Code of Student Conduct. 

The Interim Suspension includes but is not limited to:

  • The chapter may not host or participate in any chapter events. This includes, but is not limited to, game day banners, study hours and groups, on-call/designated driver programs, organized chapter clean-ups, bus trips, exchanges, GRUBs, semi formals, formals, dance/step practices, Founders day, participation in alumni events, and any on-off campus programs and socials; or assessment workshops unless the topic is hazing, alcohol, drug or sexual misconduct.
  • The chapter may not participate in any intramural activities.
  • The chapter may not conduct any meetings unless directed by the University to assist in the investigation.
  • Newly initiated members and initiated members may not have any contact direct, virtual, or through
  • third parties outside of approved meetings at the fraternity house. This includes, but is not limited to, electronic correspondence, verbal communication, contact through mutual acquaintances. Any verbal or non-verbal contact outside of the above mentioned parameters could be a violation of the Louisiana State.

There is no information available regarding the time frame of the investigation.
