Zachary Police arrests former student for firing shots around school

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) - Zachary Police arrested a former Zachary High student for firing two shots at Zachary High School on Feb 6 2017.

According to authorities, Zachary Police received a tip from Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers that the suspect 19-year-old Morgan Hubert fired the shots at Zachary High School.

Authorities said Hubert was brought in for questioning and after being advised of his Miranda rights admitted to shooting a .22 caliber after watching American Sniper.

Hubert told authorities that he was cleaning out a travel trailer and found a .22.  Hubert stated he did not see the magazine in the weapon so he opened a travel trailer window and aimed the weapon toward the school, firing one shot, authorities said.

Authorities said the suspect further stated he turn the gun on the side at which time he accidentally squeezed the trigger for a second time.

Authorities charged Hubert with aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of weapons.
