City of Baton Rouge release flood inundation maps with new numbers

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) - The City of Baton Rouge released a new map through the GIS portal that officials hope will continue defining the full breadth of the devastating impact from recent flooding events.
 
According to an official, the map functions as a “story map,” including four distinct maps that collectively help tell the story of how floodwaters resulted in catastrophic damage throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. Those maps include the following:
  • “Estimated Flood Inundation Area Map,” which is an updated version of our flood inundation map that we have continued to refine and update based on new data inputs since first releasing it on August 19th. This map is powered by a complication of various data inputs ranging from 911 call-outs and Baton Rouge Fire Department search and rescue data to NOAA and Civil Air Patrol data and FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency DFIRM flood hazard areas.

Please note that these are preliminary FEMA estimates and not data generated or overseen by the City of Baton Rouge, Parish of East Baton Rouge.

According to the State of Louisiana and FEMA, these are the numbers for housing programs implemented:
  • Shelter at Home Program:
Registration started Monday.
1 house completed. No set timeline for how long each will take.
Crews are working through the weekend/holiday
57 homes have been inspected for the program through Thursday night
As of last night, 14,782 have registered for program
This registration is SEPARATE from FEMA. This is a state program.
 
  • Manufactured Housing Units:
As of this morning - 444 households approved for MHU's
171 units have arrived in the region with 23 more in transit today
 
133,000 have registered for FEMA
 
Officials urges users to contact them via Facebook or email at gis@brgov.com if any inaccuracies in the flood inundation map are noticed, which is refined based on feedback from residents.
