Sydney Simone

Sydney Simone is delighted to join the NBC Local 33 and Fox 44 news team as the weekend anchor and reporter. This young and creative talent covers various news topics including severe weather, feature stories and breaking news.

In 2019, Sydney started her broadcast career at KTAL NBC 6/ FOX 33, one of Nexstar’s affiliate stations in Shreveport-Texarkana. In 2021, Sydney took her talents to Houston, Texas, where she continued working as a multimedia journalist and morning reporter for CW39.

This community-focused journalist emphasizes her commitment to building trustworthy relationships with local viewers through her storytelling skills and her ability to connect and engage with people on social media. Sydney says trust starts with transparency. She believes that effectively conveying a message will not only strengthen personal credibility, but it can also build rapport in the community.

Although Sydney is new to the Baton Rouge area, she’s no stranger to climate change. She calls herself a “Midwest girl adopted by the South.” The open-minded and inquisitive journalist was born in Detroit, Michigan, raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Purdue University in Indiana. Furthermore, Sydney is excited to learn and embrace Louisiana culture.

Before starting in television, Sydney created a digital radio broadcast show called the “College Playground” on a new and upcoming platform known as Stationhead. This show highlights collegiate athletes’ life experiences on and off the field. As a former athlete, Sydney’s first passion is sports. However, the news side of the journalism business took her down a different lane and quickly swept her off her feet. So far, Sydney says news is where she belongs at this moment.

Among other things, Sydney is a part of two well-known organizations, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists.

When Sydney isn’t out in the community covering stories or at the anchor desk, you can find her enjoying great-tasting food and vibing to a good playlist. You can also reach Sydney at ssimone@BRproud.com or connect with her on social media.
