Complement over competition: Southern QBs in Jaguars’ offense

Jaguar Nation

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Jaguars will enter the fall in a unique position at quarterback: three signal callers who have all started and won games for Southern. Interim head coach Jason Rollins confirmed at SWAC Media Day Ladarius Skelton was QB1, but during a Tuesday presser, Rollins explained why Skelton wouldn’t be the only quarterback on the field.

“You watched one of our games this year; we had both of them, two quarterbacks, on the field at the same time. We utilize all of them. It’s no different than a speed back and a power back. We’re gonna use the skillset to the advantage of ourselves,” Rollins said.

Rollins also stated packages were already in place for multiple-quarterback sets, but the Jaguars will play with what the defense gives them.

The interim head coach didn’t describe the position as a “quarterback competition” because of how different Skelton, Glendon (Bubba) McDaniel and John Lampley’s skillets are. He will cater the offense to the skillset of whoever is on the field.

“What one can do, another doesn’t do quite as well so with the different skillsets it’s not really competition. They’re each other’s biggest cheerleaders. We have three quarterbacks can pretty much play for any team in this conference, and we just blessed to have three that’s in one building,” Rollins said.
