LOUISVILLE, KY (BRPROUD) – The Southern men’s basketball team kept things interesting in the first half against the Louisville Cardinals in their season opener.

In the end, the Jags lost 72-60 inside the KFC YUM! Center.

“We played our hearts out but we ran out of gas and we ran out of bodies, said Head Coach Sean Woods. We started cramping and just couldn’t sustain. I’m proud of our guys and the way they fought. For the first game, in this type of environment, we’ll take this, and we’ll learn from it, but I love the competitiveness. We need to clean up some things, but it’s the first game. We’re on the right track.”

The Jaguars took an early lead in the 2nd half, but the Cardinals went on a 22-7 run and never looked back.

The Jaguars will face Tulane on Saturday.
