Baton Rouge, LA – Southern kicked off the Eric Dooley era in a statement win over Florida Memorial University, 86-0.

The Jaguars worked all offseason on a fast paced offense that everyone within the program declared was “Basketball on grass”. They followed up on their statement by putting up more points than some NBA teams after 15 minutes, ending the first quarter up 42-0.

BeSean McCray started at quarterback due to his ability to pass and run the ball. He flashed both skills, running for a 65 yard touchdown on the Jags second possession and throwing a 20 yard pass to the end zone as the clock ran out in the first.

McCray’s partner in the backfield, running back Jerodd “JJ” Simms blossomed in the new offense and displayed his ability to be an every down back. He finished as Southern’s leading receiver with 49 yards and a receiving touchdown to go alongside 84 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.

The Southern defense held FMU to just 92 total yards on the night. All-American Jordan Lewis contributed a strip-sack touchdown and senior defensive back Glenn Brown returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown.
