BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern football didn’t practice Monday or Tuesday, and the Jaguars missed crucial days to get in shape. The Jags needed the practices to prepare the team for the season opener on February 26th, and even last week, head coach Dawson Odums expressed concern about his unit being ready for gameday.
“The one thing that I don’t think you’re going to be ready for — it’s going be hard to get ready for — is the condition that you need to be in for a football game, and with limited number of travel, it’s going be tough on both teams,” Odums said.
Missing practice won’t just affect the team’s conditioning. Southern’s play has been inconsistent thus far in spring camp, and the Jaguars needed to create stability in the remaining offseason.
“It’s a roller coaster, just trying to get our team to be consistent and put good days back-to-back. You can’t start out good in the morning, then have a lull and pick it up at the end, just trying to be consistent throughout,” Odums added.
