BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Eleven Southern University football players will miss Saturday’s homecoming football game after being suspended by the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The suspension are stemming from a pre-game scuffle that took place before the Southern University and Prairie View football game on October 8. Southern won the game 45-13.
Ten players from Prairie View were also suspended.
In a release announcing the suspensions, the Southwestern Athletic Conference said it was determined that the student-athletes involved in the altercation violated the league’s code of ethics/conduct by committing acts of unsportsmanlike conduct.
Additionally, the Conference Office has levied a fine against Southern in the amount of $7,500 along with a fine against Prairie View A&M in the amount of $10,000. The league determined that Prairie View A&M failed to comply with the SWAC’s Gameday Management Decorum which led to additional PVAMU fines.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference didn’t identify the players suspended for Saturday’s homecoming game against Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Kickoff for homecoming is set for 4 p.m. at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
