BATON ROUGE, LA (LOCAL33) (FOX44) – Baton Rouge General is reminding parents to keep health in mind when preparing to go back to school.

Baton Rouge General officials said the first day of school is a good time to get your children’s annual check-ups.

Dr. Vineeth Kumar, Physician at Baton Rouge General, said it’s important to make sure your child’s immunizations are up-to-date, keep tabs on their growth progress and to check on any concerns you may have about vision or hearing.

Dr. Kumar said it’s also a good time to check on your child’s overall health.

This includes things like sleep schedules, eating habits and hygiene.

Parents should also check their child’s shoes for proper fitting as well as back packs. Poor fitting shoes and book bags that are too heavy can impact your child’s health.
