Heartbeat: Amid a pandemic it is more important now than ever to take care of your heart

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– Dr. Gadi with the Cardiovascular Institute of the South is concerned with the decrease in patients coming to visit his office amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s important to know about Covid. It’s important to prevent it’s spread it’s important to learn about it, but equally important is to not neglect your health conditions,” Dr. Gadi said.

Dr. Gadi said Covid is the reason you should be going to all your doctors appointments.

“Unfortunately if someone were to get Covid at least they are in a better place to fight the disease we as doctors would be at a better place to offer better treatment for the patient to help them recover faster by managing these underlying conditions,” Gadi said.

The Cardiovascular Institute of the South is taking many precautions to make vulnerable patients feel safe.

“We have formed a task force that meet pretty much every day, they are solely tasked with knowing the disease, understanding the disease, understanding the numbers and then coming out with various recommendations,” Dr. Gadi said.

Measures implemented include social distancing, all doctors and nurses wearing PPE, and calling patients from their cars to come into their appointments.
