At a time when most people are celebrating with their families, one Zachary family is facing the battle of a lifetime. Keith Phillips needs double lung transplant. He was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis earlier in the year, which is a diagnosis that brings back sad memories. His father died of the same disease 29 years ago. And Keith lost his aunt and grandmother to pulmonary fibrosis as well.
The married, father of three says his illness has progressed so quickly that it’s difficult for him to be the active husband and father he’s always been. “Getting a lung transplant will give me life and extend the years I have with my family” said Phillips. “Seeing my children grow up and being a part of my family’s future would mean everything to me”
The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and Phillips needs to raise at least $50,000 to help cover his costs. That doesn’t include the cost of travelling 1,100 miles to the specialists at the Cleveland Clinic, who are his best chance for survival. And even when the transplant is done, Phillips will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, for the rest of his life.
“I praise God for the blessings and grace He has and will provide us. I am humbled by the generosity of family, friends, and others. It’s hard to find the words to express how much this means to me and my family.”
If you’d like to help Keith Phillips and his family with the cost of his treatment, the National Foundation for Transplants transplant fund is accepting donations in his honor.
