BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Do you think your soul food should win an award? Here’s your chance to put your recipes to the test! The Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival Cooking Contest is open for entries.
The 6th Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 20 and May 21. The contest has five categories: Meats, Vegetable and Side Dishes, Bread and Desserts, Appetizers and Soups and Beverages and Ices.
The judging criteria will consist of presentation, taste and the story behind each dish. Ten contestants will be pre-selected and need to bring enough food for six people on the day of their category judging.
Entry fees are $20 before the festival and $30 for walk-ups, if slots are available, festival organizers said.
The festival’s musical lineup includes soul, blues, gospel and R&B singers. Spoken word artists are also listed on the lineup. Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, SmokeHouse Porter and Miss Mamie, and Pastor Leon Hitchens are a few of the artists on the lineup, according to event organizers. See the full list here.
