BATON ROUGE, LA (BRPROUD) — Prepare to meet an educator, who has the passion and the patience, for teaching kids how to read!

Her name is Mrs. Jaqueline Burton, an educator at Park Medical Academy in Baton Rouge. Burton has been teaching for two decades, and says her job is not a commitment, but a calling.

“I truly believe that every child can learn something, and so it motivates me every morning to get up,” she explained.

Burton is an ESS teacher at the school. She helps students who need a little more assistance in class by teaching them in small groups.

“We start with foundational skills, so our students at this time are working on the sounds and the verbiage of different letters, and also how to recognize, identify, and of course how to write them,” she explained.

It can be tough teaching such a small age group, but Burton is up for the task every day. She says she wants her students to feel loved, even when the lessons get hard.

“I want them to remember me. Remember the relationship we had and remember the love that I could give them,” Burton said.
