COVID-19 hospitalization numbers drop slightly overnight

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The number of unvaccinated COVID hospitalizations actually went down over the last 24 hours.

On Tuesday, the number of unvaccinated stood at 420 in the three major hospitals statewide.

Today, that number is down by 11. Vaccinated COVID-19 hospitalizations are up by five since yesterday.

There are 464 documented COVID-19 hospitalizations on Wednesday which is down by six from Tuesday, August 10.

According to Ochsner Baton Rouge, “Among the COVID-positive patients on a ventilator today at Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge, 58% are between the ages of 18-59. None of these patients on a ventilator under 60 years old had been fully vaccinated.”

Ochsner Baton Rouge offers drive-thru PCR testing for COVID-19 six days per week at the former Runnels School (17255 S. Harrell’s Ferry Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70816).

Testing has no out-of-pocket costs.

In August, the drive thru hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday, and 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., on Saturday. Hours in September are likely to change due to previously scheduled events at the location.

  • Testing is open to Louisiana residents, age two and older.
  • Doctor’s orders are not required.
  • Must bring a picture ID and insurance card, if applicable.
  • We will NOT turn away patients based on their insurance status.

If you think you were exposed to someone with COVID, but don’t currently have any symptoms, the best course of action is to quarantine for 10 days.
