EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome suggests weekend event organizers should halt their plans, in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Broome issued a disaster declaration that will unlock emergency funds within East Baton Rouge Parish.

The mayor filed an order earlier this week to postpone events that would otherwise attract large crowds. The Wearin’ of the Green Parade and the Shamrock Run, initially planned for Mar. 14, remain on hold until further notice. The Baton Rouge Blues Festival, originally set for Apr. 18 and 19, is similarly postponed.

As of Saturday afternoon, no East Baton Rouge Parish resident has tested positive for the COVID-19 strain of the virus. Across Louisiana, 77 people have tested positive.
