Gov. Edwards holds coronavirus press conference

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Governor John Bel Edwards held a press conference at 2:30 p.m. on Thusday to discuss the states response to COVID-19.

In a press conference earlier this month, Edwards announced a that he would extend “Phase 2” of reopening until at least August 7, issued a mandate requiring masks be worn in public by anyone over the age of 8 and enhanced restrictions on bars through out the state.

Grant Parish, Red River Parish and West Feliciana Parish had COVID-19 incidences lower than 100 cases per 100,000 residents over the course of two weeks and therefore were exempt from the mask mandate but cases in all three parishes rose above the exemption level within weeks.
