LDH reports 12K new COVID cases since Wednesday

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) reports 12,467 new COVID-19 cases since Wednesday.

LDH says this is a new single-day record surpassing yesterday’s record. The number of cases is out of 54,374 tests.

Officials said 762 individuals are hospitalized, with the majority of hospitalizations including those who are not fully vaccinated.

Case breakdown by region:

  • Region 1 (Greater New Orleans) — 24%
  • Region 2 (Baton Rouge) — 20%
  • Region 7 (Northwest) — 13%

LDH said 97.8% of new cases reported since Dec. 29 are tied to community spread.

Two additional COVID-related death have been reported since Wednesday.

State health officials continue recommending vaccinations, boosters and taking precautions such as wearing face masks and social distancing. To find a list of vaccination locations, click here.
