BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33)(FOX 44) – Governor John Bel Edwards lays down new restrictions and guidelines following the state’s advancement into Phase 3.
Louisiana is moving into Phase 3 starting tonight. That means businesses like restuarants, gyms, and spas can have at most 75% capacity with social distancing and restrictions.
Guidelines for bars are more restrictive. Owners can only reopen at 25% capacity with a total of 50 people. Social distancing restrictions must be enforced both inside and outside of the bar facility. Alcohol sales end at 10 p.m. and everyone has to leave at 11 p.m. The alcohol time limit isn’t exclusive to bars only, any business serving alcohol will adhere to these rules.
Additionally, bar owners can only open in places where COVID-19 cases are significantly low.
” A parish has to be eligible meaning they have to be at or below the 5% threshold for at least two weeks,” Governor Edwards says.
If a bar approaches a positivity rate higher than the 5% threshold, the bar will be closed. As of now only five parishes in the state meet the requirements to reopen, none of which are East Baton Rouge Parish.
Nursing homes will not be allowed to resume visitation at this time, but the governor says it could be a possibility in the near future. The Department of Health is working on a pilot program to get a small number of visitors to nursing homes at a time. The details for this program have not been ironed out, but officials says the state can expect more information in the coming weeks.
Governor John Bel Edwards will give details on what restrictions remain in place and which are being lessened as Louisiana moves into “Phase 3” of its response to the COVID-19 outbreak in a press conference happening at 2 p.m. on Friday.
