Local hospitals see slight decrease in COVID-19 patients

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A new week begins and when it comes to COVID-19, there have been some changes in our local hospitals.

According to Baton Rouge General, “Over the weekend, we have noticed a downturn in COVID admissions, including in the ICU, down from our peak of 198 on August 13.”

Here is what the COVID patient numbers look like over the last four days at the two BRG hospitals:

  • Friday: 168 COVID patients
  • Saturday: 164 COVID patients
  • Sunday: 175 COVID patients
  • Monday: 156 COVID patients

Out of the 156 COVID patients currently at BRG hospitals, 142 are unvaccinated.

The number of COVID patients in the ICU at BRG facilities has gone down from 43% to 38%.

COVID patient numbers at Baton Rouge General are only part of the overall picture.

Baton Rouge General, Ochsner and Our Lady of the Lake are providing the latest COVID hospitalization numbers in their hospitals.

Only 12% of COVID patients in the three major local hospitals are vaccinated as of Monday, August 23.

The number of COVID patients who are hospitalized has gone down from 435 to 424 in the last 24 hours.
