Southern University hosts public information session amid COVID-19 outbreak

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33)(FOX 44) – Southern University School of Nursing partnered with the Louisiana Department of Health for a public information session about COVID-19 symptoms and spread.

The Medical Director and Regional Manager for the Louisiana Department of Health, Dr. Dawn Marcelle, guided the session through a PowerPoint presentation explaining the virus’ origin and progression into the United States.

“It was very reassuring to have a discussion like this in this setting,” Marcelle says.

The coronavirus outbreak started in Wuhan, China and spread to the United States in January. As of now, Louisiana has three presumptive cases of the virus. Those tests have been submitted to the CDC for confirmation.
