BATON ROUGE, LA (BRPROUD) – The YMCA wants you to stay safe while keeping active during this coronavirus pandemic. They’ve launched a new app to help you do just that.
The coronavirus pandemic is altering the way we do life, including how we exercise.
To help keep you active, the YMCA launched an app to make sure you can still live a healthy lifestyle-while at home.
“They can go to YMCA 360, which is a site that’s been created through YMCA of the USA. That has videos from 15 minutes to 30 minutes, to hour long boot camp classes, yoga classes, sculpting classes, calisthenics,” said YMCA President & CEO of the Capital Region Christian Engle.
You can also create your own workout.
“It’s actually a link on the app. You click it, it says create your own work out and I believe there’s over 10,000 exercises with videos.”
If you have access to workout equipment at your home great, but you don’t have to have equipment to use the app.
“Whether you just have a mat at home or maybe you have a small gym or some small equipment. You can actually go through and design a program for what you have.”
There’s also resources for parents.
“We’ve created links for parents where they can find activities for their children. Everything from educational, to science oriented and some fun things that they can do at home. Nutrition, nutritional education, even just recipes. We’re trying to make it a one stop shop resource for the community.”
Until the gym is reopened, Engle said to hang tight and we will get through this together.
“The Y has always been an organization that responds in a crisis, and this is our opportunity to do that. It might be very small but it’s an opportunity for us to get something out to the community so they have a resource to kind of keep them going,” said Engle.
