BATON ROUGE, LA (BR-PROUD) – If you’re looking to make a fresh start in the the new year, the YMCA is rolling out a new program to help you reach your goals.

The YMCA is kicking off the new year with a new program, EGYM.

“Egym, here at this facility, is nine pieces of equipment. It’s a full body workout. You always start with the same machine and you always go in the same order. It only takes 17 minutes to go around, so you can get a full work out in 34 minutes.”

YMCA Personal Trainer Meredith Atterbery said Egym takes the fear out of working out.

“A lot of people get really intimidated with starting an exercise program. Even if you’ve been exercising you get stuck in that rut and you don’t really want to try anything new. So, this takes all of the guesswork out.”

Once you are set up on the program, the machines guide you through the workout.

“You have a fitness staff person there with you holding your hand getting you set up on it. Then after that you don’t need to hold your hand anymore because everything is customized to you.”

You can also customize your training program to your specific goals.

“Once we get those settings in the system, it goes through a progression of workouts. Your workout is different every time you come in but it’s customized to you. So it’s going to help you progress through them. Also, after six workouts it’s going to prompt you to redo a strength test. So if you’ve gotten stronger the system is going to read that as soon as you do that strength test.”

Atterbery said the Egym program is also great for accountability.

“It makes you focus. It focuses on the timing of each repetition. A guide you on how many to do, how much weight to do and then it’s great because it doesn’t give you the opportunity to rest for too long. You you don’t have to wait on that person to stop texting to be able to use that piece of equipment. He keeps everybody rotating on the same schedule no matter what your goals are.”
