NEW ORLEANS, La. (BRPROUD.com) – David Simoneaux had a chance to cap off his first season as Catholic High’s head coach with a Division I championship, but the top-ranked bears had to beat No. 2 Jesuit to claim the state title.
Catholic took advantage of the Blue Jays’ early mistakes. A bad snap on a punt, during Jesuit’s opening drive, led to a Bears touchdown, when Joshua Robertson recovered the loose ball for the score.
The madness in the first quarter led to more Curdog momentum. Bears quarterback Daniel Beale hit Daniel Hardin for another touchdown in the opening quarter, and Catholic took a 14-0 lead.
Jesuit scored 10 points, including Jack Larriviere’s touchdown on a QB keeper, but neither defense allowed any second-half points.
Catholic High won 14-10.
