St. Thomas More playground build brings smiles

Members of the St. Thomas More community braved the early winter elements outside Friday to build a brand new playground on the STM campus.

It may have been wet and muddy out there, but the new facilities are second to none. The 7,000-plus square foot playground features a large century dome climber, tandem swings, balance pods throughout, water slides and more.

Hundreds of smiling STM students eagerly watched as the playground was installed piece by piece, offering their appreciation for the major campus upgrade.

According to St. Thomas More Pastor, Father Michael Alello, this project is just another example of a closely-knit STM community.

"It's been a community event," Father Alello said. "From our parishioners at the Church, to our parents at the school. To just friends and neighbors out here. And as you can see, it's been a beautiful day today to build a playground. We're not building a snowman even though it's cool and rainy. But for me to watch everyone help, everyone is smiling, everyone is having a blast, and it is a miserable day to build a playground, but everyone is having a blast and that is what we want to be about today."

The St. Thomas More community playground build will continue Saturday and should be completed by the end of the weekend.
