BATON ROUGE, La. – No.1 Catholic High hosted No. 3 St. Amant for the Bears’ homecoming game. The showdown at Memorial Stadium was anticipated to be a shootout. Catholic High averaged 40 points per game heading into the night, and the Gators averaged 42.83 ppg.
However, the Bears’ defense dominated St. Amant.
Catholic High forced a turnover with an interception on the Gators’ second possession of the game, and the Bears didn’t allow any points until the end of the third quarter.
Offensively, Shelton Sampson, Jr. showed why the junior wide receiver is a five-star recruit. Sampson caught two first half touchdowns, contributing to the Bears’ 32-0 halftime lead.
Catholic High won 53-7.
