BATON ROUGE – In a top 5 matchup Friday night, No. 4 Liberty Magnet (9-2) ran into a buzz saw in the quarterfinals against the defending state champions No. 5 St. Thomas More (8-4), 63-35.

The Cougars scored on their opening drive led by senior quarterback Walker Howard, an LSU commit. Then the Patriots responded with a Kaleb Jackson rushing touchdown, but from there things got out of hand for Liberty. STM scored 35 unanswered points in the first half.

The Pats fought back in the third and pulled within 20 points, but just couldn’t overcome the deficit. Liberty’s first varsity season comes to a close after their historic run under Head Coach Drey Trosclair.

Next up, STM will face No. 1 E.D. White in the semi-finals.
