METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) – One of the many things that attracted Derek Carr to the Saints is the opportunity to have the complete package.

He wanted a family atmosphere and teammates whose characters meant just as much to them as their game.

“The most important thing to me was the character in the room, and when I talk to these defensive guys, I’ve known a lot of them for years, but they’re grown men, they know how to handle success, they know how to handle hard times, and they compete at everything they do when you get in this building,” said New Orleans quarterback Derek Carr. “You meet everybody and you talk football, you go to dinner and you meet Miss Benson and it’s like ‘How do you not come here,’ you know? It’s like you’re looking for every good thing everywhere else and there’s a lot of good things about other places, but it’s hard to find a place that has almost everything.”

“I think what we’ve been able to accomplish here at least since I came back, I think all of that kind of sells itself because it’s the truth, and we’ve been one of the most successful organizations in the national football league over the last seven or eight years. So we’re gonna continue to do that and I think this is a step in the right direction, getting back to where we feel like we should be,” said Head Coach Dennis Allen.

“I’m really excited to have all those guys run down the field and just check on down to Alvin just to see what he can do. I’m excited to watch Taysom [Hill] run the football and have the bonus hands. I’m excited to watch those guys run down the field with their speed and athleticism,” said Carr.

Carr has already made close relationships with Cam Jordan and Michael Thomas. He told the media once he got off the phone with Thomas, his wife asked him, ‘Why are you smiling so much?’ He said, “Wow. I love that guy.”
